Originally designed as a military fortress, the Alhambra became the site the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella (where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition). The complex is formed by the stunning Moorish palaces and the Palace of King Charles V, a Renaissance building, inside the Nasrid fortification of the Alhambra, as well as the Alcazaba fortress and an opposite independent palace: The Generalife, which is surrounded by orchards, greenery, fountains that keep the palace cool and beautiful gardens that welcome the visitor.
